Apple releases graphics update

On August 16th Apple released a grapgics update for Snow Leopard.
According to their Knowledge Base it contains the following fixes and improvements:

  • address frame rate issues occurring in Portal and Team Fortress 2 on certain Macs
  • resolve an issue that could cause Aperture 3 or StarCraft II to unexpectedly quit or become unresponsive

The download weights in about 66MB and installs just like any other update.

Some quick tests on my side (no way scientific nor complete) shows that Starcraft 2 does seems more fluent and smoother then previously. Also World of Warcraft seems to work
quite well. Then again, it did that before too and Starcraft 2 being the more graphic intense of them two.
Regarding this update it seems as Valve have been involved in its development. As you know they released Steam for Mac some months ago, which is a great move in order to get the Mac users on the trail of gaming.
During an interview it was mentioned that they (Valve) was working closely with Apple in order to improve graphics performance under Mac OSX while developing Steam for Mac.

After the graphics update was released, Valve released an article where they took up the advantages of the graphics updates and what improvements it carries.
